Health officials warn of blue-green algae in area lakes, ponds
This spring's warmer than usual temperatures mean blue-green algae blooms are already starting to form, according to local health officials.
Officials from Public Health -- Madison & Dane County said that the dry, hot weather for the next few days could increase blooms on area lakes.
Blue green algae can be toxic and cause serious health problems for people and pets. Officials are urging swimmers and boaters to stay away from the blooms and make sure to shower after swimming in any area lakes or ponds.
