Police: Burglary suspect arrested after being confronted by victim's boyfriend

Shortly after midnight Wednesday morning, a 27-year-old woman was awakened to the sound of a burglar entering her East Johnson Street apartment.

The man took a bag that contained a laptop valued at $2,000, the woman's wallet and other personal items, police said.

The man, later identified as Jeffrey B. White, 52, approached a group of men who were gathering in the 100 block of North Franklin Street, police said.

Police said White offered to sell the bag for $40, but the victim's boyfriend was hanging with the group and recognized the bag. He demanded that White give him the bag. White let the bag go and ran away, police said.

He was found a short time later by police. White said that someone else sold him the stolen items, even though he was attempting to sell them about six minutes after they were taken during the burglary, piolice said.
